KiraKira is going on a short tour of Europe this September and we designed a poster for it!... or at the moment for this first stop at Sódóma, a venue in Reykjavík she'll be playing at on September 5th. The image is going to be used for more show posters though and flyers too so keep your eyes peeled for dates and locations on KiraKira's Myspace page!

Also, below is a a larger version of the poster, simplified. There are some little folks worth a look hanging around the letters.


９月から始まるKiraKiraのヨーロッパツアーに、ポスター／フライヤーデザインという形で参加しています。

上にアップしているものは、最初の公演先であるアイスランド・レイキャビックのSódómaでの9/5公演用のものですが、これよりあとの公演先と、次のいくつかのツアーでこのデザインのポスター／フライヤーが作られるそうです。
たくさんの人に実物を見てもらえたら良いなと思います。（私も実物が欲しい！まあデザインしたものをプリントアウトすればいいんですが…でもそういう事じゃなくて！）

Five Years

From the wooded crevices and dark spaces of Okutama to the haunted hills and cold streams of Greenfield, Overture has made it to year number five! Still meager in our means and production we are nonetheless overwhelmed daily by how far this dream has come. And as is often the case with time perception we see our beginnings at once as a distant shore and the last footprint we left on the path, the years stretching and shrinking as we consider them.
We think of all the folks who have given us opportunities over the years, and believed in us when there looked to be little reason to, and we are deeply grateful. We think also of all the folks who have come about through Overture: Harold & Chim, Bryum & Kapok, Buttobi Bear & Caesar, DingDong Yeahs, etc., looking on in anticipation of how they will continue to grow and excited for what new friends will come along in the future.
Thank you for five magical years and please join us on the adventures ahead!


2009年の8月29日にOvertureは５周年という日を迎えました。

５年前の8月29日、奥多摩の森の中で小さな光が瞬くのをお互いの中に見てからというもの、ある時は急流の飛び石を渡り、暗い洞窟の中を探って歩いたり、雨の中をただ黙々と進んだり、寄り道をしたりしながら、気がつけば一人の力ではとても到達できない遥か彼方まで来ていたように感じます。

素晴らしい人達との出会いもたくさんありました。
５年前に戻って、その時の自分たちに「これから５年の間にこんな人達と一緒に作品を作る事になるよ」と言ってもとても信じられないような、でもどこかで繋がってる気がするような人達…。ひとつひとつの出会いに物語があり、それぞれが大きなターニングポイントでした。

そして、世界のどこかで私たちの作品・キャラクター達（ハロルドとチム/ブリアムとカポック/ぶっとびベアー & シーザー/DingDong Yeahs/ルバーブ達等々）を見てくれた人、この文章を読んでくれているあなた、全ての人にありがとうを！

今、Overtureは来年に向けてまた大きな変化の中にいます。
Overtureの魔法で紡ぐ６年目の冒険を、一緒に楽しんでくれたら嬉しいです。

Heavy Maple















A cd came in the mail yesterday that we thought we'd share as it is a nice little fellow and is sort of a seed for us and we want to nurture all the things it might grow into!
The cd is "Heavy Maple," the debut album of rec.tangle, formerly going by Topo Gigio and always going by Adrien Rodes. The album came out in July on melodic records.

The music is very descriptive and visual, swelling to certain locations then receding to reveal something previously unnoticed shining at your feet. There are ancient deserts and tropical islands and lakeside forests.
It is probably best just to try his music out for yourself on his myspace page or go straight ahead and purchase it from melodic or any number of record stores that carry it.

Basically when we heard his music, we knew we had to create something with him - so expect some news of a project or two popping up in the future!

(Also, the lovely artwork was done by Yuko Michishita who has created artwork for Fleetfoxes and specialten in the past)

昨日まで２日間のキャンプに行ってきました。体中から焚き火の匂いをさせて家に戻ってきた時に届いていた一つの小包。中にはCDが入ってました。

CDのタイトルは「Heavy Maple」。
７月にUKの melodic recordsから出たばかりで、ブライトンをベースに活動するrec.tangle（by Adrien Rodes／彼はまた、Topo Gigioという名前でも活動してます。）のデヴューアルバムです。

生まれたとき既に映像と対になってこの世に出てきたようなアルバムでした。
それくらい、聴いてるときに浮かんでくる映像と切り離せない…ある時は古代の砂漠、トロピカルの無人島、湖のほとりの森林などなど…
”○○みたいな音楽”と名前の付けられないような、多くの異なる世界を行き来できる力を持っている音だと思います。

試しに聞いてみたい人は彼のマイスペースへどうぞ！CDはmelodicのサイトで手に入ります。

そして、聴いた瞬間にすぐに分かった事は、彼と何かを一緒に作るべきだ！という事。
まだその何かはわかりませんが、近い将来にAdrien Rodesとの（ひとつの？いくつかの？）プロジェクトについてお知らせできればいいなと思います。

(また、今回のカバーの素敵なアートワークを手がけている Yuko Michishitaさん。 Fleetfoxes や specialtenマガジンなどにも作品を寄せています。)

塔の一番上の部屋で自慢のミックスを聴かせてくれようとしたブリーリーとブラックスメル。が、音楽がかかったとたん、また音楽パワーで現実世界に戻されてしまう二人だった…。 BB＆B（ブラックスメル＆ブリーリー）シリーズはひとまずこれで終了、来週からは普通の世界に戻ります！

Just when we thought we wouldn't see them until the new year - three boxes arrived stuffed full of the Azul/Ben Chasny split 12"!!!
It's our first experience with our work on vinyl and... it is very satisfying.
If anyone is interested in possibly purchasing a print of the liner we created, please let us know as we are in the processing/considering stage of getting some made... we'll provide you with an image of course, for preview - or actually maybe we'll just upload the image here so anyone can get a proper look.

Also, some corrections: on the PSF site the copies available is listed as 800 - there are only 700.
On the back cover of the record jacket on song no. 5 Hiroyuki Usui is credited with guitar - but it should be bass.


8/5に発売されたばかりのAzul & Six Organs of Admittanceのsplit盤が本日家に届きました！
初めての、夢に見たレコードジャケットのアートワーク。こうして実物を手に出来て、とても嬉しいです。
このチャンスをくれたAzulの臼井さん、ありがとうございました！
記念すべきレコードジャケット１枚目、忘れられないお仕事になりました。

以前ブログでも書きましたが、ライナーとしてここに入るはずだった作品がもうひとつあります。表ジャケットのさらに発展したものです。
早速この事について問い合わせがあった事もあって、ひょっとすると他にも興味のある人がいるのかもしれないと思いました。
なので、もしプリントされたら欲しいという方がいたらoverture.image@gmail.comまでメール名「レコードライナー」で連絡をください。
どんなものかは事前に何かの形で見て頂けるようにするつもりです。人数が集まった所で具体的に考えていこうと思います。

それと、内容について間違いがあったのでここで訂正します。

★PSFレコードのサイトでは800枚限定となっていますが、実際は700枚限定です。
★裏カバーの"Old man side (Azul)"の5曲目、Hiroyuki Usuiの演奏楽器にGuitarとありますが、Bassの間違いです。

FINALLY getting around to putting some work up on our Society6 account.
There are quite a lot of grants to apply for and so far it seems like a generally interesting system. We'll update it with more work soon.

Two people bundled for rough weather. This has been a bit of a repose for us as we work on more structured and repetitive projects.

制限の多い仕事の合間にちょこちょこ描いているセッションの作品が完成しました。

A month late on this, but our copy just arrived:
There's an interview with us in the latest issue (#92) of the Chinese magazine, CG Magazine and includes Bryum & Kapok on the attached DVD.
The DVD is filled with a lot of great animations including Parallelostory by impactist, Moray McLaren's music video, We Got Time by David Wilson Creative and some work from the Mixtape Club...among a number of other really great pieces.

...The link we had for the magazine is not working right now - once that works itself out we'll update this post with the magazine's site.
In the meantime I've temporarily uploaded a pdf (15MB) of the interview on our site for Chinese readers - check it out here.

発売日からは一ヶ月ほど遅れましたが、中国の雑誌「CG Magazine 92号」の特集記事、”麻雀工作室生存秘籍”にて、作品とインタビューが掲載されています。
このタイトル、訳してみると「スズメスタジオで生き残るためのヒント」。雀のように小さな規模でやってるスタジオをいろいろと紹介する、という特集のようです。

誌面だけでなく、この雑誌についてくる付録のDVD「Rush!」には「Bryum & Kapok」3部作が収録されています。
他にも、 impactist制作のParallelostory、 Moray McLarenのPV、 David Wilson Creative制作のWe Got Time。そして Mixtape Clubからもいくつかの作品が寄せられています。

今現在、CG Magazineのサイトが何らかの理由で見られないようになっているようです。（メール送って教えたんだけど「そうなんだよねー」みたいな感じで…全然平気な所がすごい！）復旧の確認が出来しだい、ここでまたお知らせするつもりです。
戻るまでの間、一時的に誌面のPDFファイル(15MB)のリンクを貼っておきます。中国語読める方はぜひチェックしてみてくださいね。こちらです。

個人的にかなり面白かったのが、インタビュー欄に書かれてた二人の名前が「」だったこと！JasonはJasonで（漢字の綴りがわかって嬉しい）、なんで私は綾じゃなくて山崎?！
いつかなんかの機会があったら「」、使おうと思います。

Yo Gabba Gabba! Exhibition at Pink Hobo

This Saturday, July 11th, at Pink Hobo Gallery in Minnneapolis, is the opening for "The Art of Yo Gabba Gabba!" an exhibition of concept designs, stills and other related artwork for the television show. There will also be artwork by artists who have contributed to the show - which means some of our work will be there as well!
The opening starts at 5pm and the exhibition is currently running until August 1st.
We are hoping to have some goods available for the opening, so if you are in the area on Saturday evening, stop by!


今週の土曜日、7/11にオープニングを迎える企画展"The Art of Yo Gabba Gabba!"にいくつかの作品が展示されます。

この展示は、米ニコロデオンの子供番組「Yo Gabba Gabba!」のスティールやコンセプトデザイン、番組にまつわる数々のアートワークなどを紹介する予定だそうで、番組内のアニメーション"Animal Sounds"を制作した私達にも声がかかって参加する事になりました。
場所はミネソタ州・ミネアポリスのPink Hobo Art Gallery。
今、オープニングにあわせて小さなグッズも会場に間に合わせようといろいろ試行錯誤しています。
私達は残念ながら会場に行けそうもないので、お近くにお住まいの方はチェックお願いします〜！

Strawberry jam and a picnic with the family for this 4th of July. I trimmed some hedges at my parents' house while Aya, sister Sara and my Mom made jam from the strawberries they picked on Friday. Brother Frank arrived and we packed the thirty-year-old picnic basket I had pulled down from the garage attic and headed out on foot to Cabot Camp, a small plot not a mile from my parents' house where the Millers River enters into the Connecticut. It's owned by Northeast Utilities or Western Mass. Electric or whoever now. It sits just below the French King Bridge and people usually only go there to fish. It is a beautiful and magical place and I have been going there for as long as I can remember.
This morning I got to try out the jam while I drank my coffee from my Harold-weekend-coffee mug and it is excellent. Taste with your eyes or come to our apartment and spread it all over the edible object of your choosing.

７月4日は独立記念日。
jasonの家族と共に、ストロベリージャム作りとピクニックを楽しみました。

金曜日にjasonのお母さんと姉Saraが摘んできた山盛りの苺を洗って、マッシャーで軽く潰して、砂糖と一緒に煮込みながらペクチンも混ぜ、泡状になった上の方をすくいとってジャムが出来上がり。 甘酸っぱい香りに包まれながら、これをガラスのジャム瓶に分け入れて、上に溶かしたパラフィン（ロウ）を流して密封をして完成です。

その後、Saraの旦那さんFrankも合流して、30年ものの大きなバスケットに食べ物とワインを入れて、歩いて10分くらいのコネチカット川沿いの小さな広場でみんなで頂きました。

薄切りの七面鳥の肉と、フルーツ（ぶどう・りんご）とセロリをバルサミコ酢で和えたサラダや、とれたてのシアントロを使ったパスタサラダ、赤／白のワインとチーズとハマス、私達は朝の市場で買ったローズマリーとオリーブオイルのパンを持ってきました。
ピクニックで、野外で食べるごはんはどうしてあんなに美味しいんでしょうね？
私は今回頑張ってセーブしたつもりでもまた食べ過ぎてしまったようで、夜はお腹が痛かったです。
