So this is what is happening on March 11th at 238 Mulberry St., currently the pop-up store/ art factory of IVANAhelsinki and Love Contemporary.
There will be mask making from 7, followed at around 8 or 8:30 by a mixture of storytelling and animation screening, including our new KiraKira animation!
We will also have some goods for sale.
All are welcome to come, it is a free event open to all ages!

前の記事で少し書いた、IVANAhelsinkiの期間限定のお店で開催されるイベントのフライヤーができました。
日時は3月１１日木曜日、場所はニューヨークの238 マルベリー(Mulberry) ストリート沿いの
プリンス(prince)とスプリング(spring)ストリートに挟まれている所です。GoogleMap
７時に開場し、早めにきてくれた人達には自分の仮面を作ってもらおうと考えています。一緒に変な仮面を作りましょう。
その後、８時か８時半ごろに、物語とアニメーション上映がミックスされた短い出し物を見て、聞いてもらう予定です。もちろんできたばかりのKiraKiraのビデオ「BLESS」も上映します！その他、グッズ販売も行う予定です。
このイベントは参加無料です。ぜひ皆さんお越し下さい★

IVANAhelsinki PopUp
Long weekend reporting!
Hmmm... I thought we had mentioned IVANAhelsinki before, but looking back, it seems we haven't! IVANAhelsinki is an amazing fashion company from Finland run by sisters Paola & Pirjo Suhonen with Paola designing the prints and clothes. We are connected with them through KASINO A4, who teamed up with IVANAhelsinki for their final party and magazine issue last year.
Now the rest of this post will start to make sense as we are putting something together with them:
After a brief meeting with Pirjo and a quick look at the space on Thursday, we headed back to 238 Mulberry St. on Friday night for the IVANAhelsinki & Love Contemporary pop-up store opening.
We saw IVANAhelsinki's Copper Chain AW '10 line, listened to the musical stylings of Alexa Wilding, and drank down some Finlandia vodka tonics.
Great fun and lots of interesting looking people!
And thanks to Pirjo and Paola, Overture will be taking over the space on March 11th for our own special kind of event! Can't say much just yet but details are coming very very soon!

水曜日の夜から２人でニューヨークを訪れていて、先ほど（土曜日の夜）Greenfieldに戻ってきました。空に広がるたくさんの星を眺めて、ああ帰ってきたなあとしみじみ。
この数日の滞在はある１つの目的のためでした。
フィンランドを代表するファッションブランドIVANAhelsinkiが2月19日〜3月16日まで期間限定オープンさせるお店IVANAhelsinki & Love Contemporary pop-up storeでこのブランドを運営する姉妹、Paola（パオラ／デザイナー） & Pirjo（ピルヨ／マネージャー）の２人に会うためです。
以前から連絡は取り合っていたのですが、偶然にも昨年終了したフィンランドのKASINO A4のラストパーティーでIVANAhelsinkiはショウを開催し、Overtureは追悼のTシャツデザインをする事で間接的にコラボする事ができて、そして今回店舗オープンのために姉妹そろってニューヨークにいるという事で、初めて会う事が出来ました。
木曜日にオープン直前のお店、金曜日にオープニングイベントと２日間通ってきました。
金曜夜のイベントでは、Alexa Wildingの生演奏をBGMに、IVANAhelsinkiの2010秋冬”Copper Chain”ラインを纏ったモデルのショウとFinlandiaのウォッカドリンク、そして店内に溢れるお客さん達のファッションも楽しみました。
そしてそして、ニューヨークに住んでる人、ニューヨークにお友達のいる人！
3月11日(木)に、このIVANAhelsinki & Love Contemporary pop-up storeでOvertureのイベントをする事が決定しましたので、ぜひ来てください＆どうか来れそうな人にお知らせくださいー！内容については、できるだけ早くここでお知らせできるようにします。よろしくです！
Parasol Magazine #6

The sixth issue of the sweet online publication, Parasol Magazine, run entirely (!?) by Yasmine Surovec, came out yesterday and has some pages of Overture work in it! The images used are the some of the watercolor and ink illustrations we created for our Caffeine Exhibition in Shelburne Falls, MA almost two years ago. The originals are still hanging, until the end of the month, as part of our exhibition at Elliot St. Cafe in Brattleboro, VT.先日公開されたばかりのオンラインマガジンParasol Magazineの６号にCaffeine Exhibitionで展示した水彩＆ペン画の作品が数点掲載されています。アリゾナ州在住のYasmine Surovecさんが編集＆デザインしています。

Joshua Burkett, the gentle sweetheart co-proprietor of Mystery Train Records, co-synthesizer of Tarp, and putter-outer of damn-fine records on his Mystra imprint, will be performing a set of his curiously beautiful tunes. His records are gorgeous homey soundscapes with idiosyncratic acoustic guitar twinklings in the vein of fahey or elizabeth cotten. He hasn't been playing out too much lately, so we're thrilled he took us up on the offer!

also performing is The RICEnsemble. The RICEnsemble is a multi-dimensional sound unit dedicated to expressing musical vibrations as a perceptual substance to be shaped into unique artifacts for each performance. Drawing on fringe traditions of world-wide experimental music, unorthodox theory, and quack science, the RICEnsemble creates sonic textures and materials that exist within themselves to be actively reinterpreted by the listener. We will be screening some short animations from our old studiomates, Overture Brown. This art/comix/design duo create enveloping worlds of cute/creepy characters prancing through landscapes dribbling with color. A cursory peep through their websites reveals a jaw-dropping array of projects & connections/collaborations with artists around the world - they are truly the hidden gem of Greenfield.

also screening will be the debut of Neil Young, Cloaca's newest video, an as-yet-to-be-titled piece from his ongoing Qwiktime 'N' Swiffkutz series. Shot during Fat Worm of Error's recording sessions this past spring with sound engineer extraordinaire, Justin Pizzoferrato, the video is an acrobatic camera collage of the Bank Row Studios' strange spaces, sounds, & textures. Also, brief excerpts from other titles in the Qwiktime 'N' Swiffkutz series may be screened as well.

KASINO A4: R.I.P.
KASINO A4, the magazine we've had the privilege of working with for the past three years is dead. It committed suicide with its tenth incarnation, pulling out with its most exquisite issue to date, overflowing with all the delicious details that have made the publication so interesting since since its birth.

縁あって知り合い、そこから３年（５つの号）に渡って作品を寄せ続けたフィンランド・ヘルシンキの雑誌KASINO A4。
昨年発行された#10 秋冬号 “THE DEADLINE ISSUE” を最後に、新しい形で生まれ変わるために、一旦その命を終えました。
昨日、その記念すべき10号を含む小包が一ヶ月の旅を終えて家に届いていました。
最後の号の表紙はグレイブストーン（墓石）のデザイン。これを傾けると、最後の言葉が浮かんで来るという仕組みになっています。
Also, in this final issue is some info on two upcoming tshirts KASINO A4 is coming out with in the near future to celebrate their death. One of the shirts was designed by us! You can kind of get an idea from the images below, but we actually used the original for a group show last fall, so you can see it better there.

そして今回、KASINO A4は自らの終焉を祝う２種類の記念Tシャツを制作しました。

下の画像（左）でモデルさんが着ているものでもなんとなく見えますが、実はこれ、お気づきの方もいるかもしれませんが、昨年秋のブラトルボロのグループ展に原画を展示していました。
その時の写真にもう少しはっきりしたものがありますので興味のある方はそちらをどうぞ。
もうひとつのコラボレーターは、これもまた２人組、パリのAHONEN & LAMBERGです。こっちはシンプルでとても美しいです。

The magazine also included us in a group of "Top Employees" which was very sweet.
It was really wonderful working with KASINO A4 and we certainly hope to have the opportunity to do it again in the future!

なんだか心が温まりました。
訪れた事のないフィンランドの一度も会った事のない人達と共に数年間、一緒に歩んできた道の中で、小さく光る宝石を見せてもらったような気分です。
彼らとのコラボレーションはまだ始まったばかり。今度はいつか、ヘルシンキに行かないとね…。

The shirts are part of their Playful Type line, working with publisher Gestalten and the designs from the book of the same title, Playful Type: Ephemeral Lettering and Illustrative Fonts (hardcover currently sold out apparently, softcover available here).

The women's hooded sweatshirt below is one of two other designs of ours used for the Playful Type line. These were by request of UNIQLO after the NUTRITION design was selected, with the text and arrangement UNIQLO's planning and the just handwritten design Overture's doing. Again, this shirt is available here on the Japanese site at the moment with it and a similar design seeing a worldwide release some time in March.

Friday Night, Brattleboro

The opening on Friday went really well! A lot of people showed up for the benefit show where Kurt & Chris Weisman and Ruth Garbus played their lovely music and even our good friend Ryan Storm joined in on his drum (although we missed that part!).Nick Sarfaty-Jackson also seemed to do quite well that evening selling his earrings.
Below are some photos from the show...well, from the hanging Thursday night, so you get a sense of the space and the work but none of the people and music and earrings (between the pizza, talking, tea and music we forgot to take any pictures!).
1/8（金）、ブラトルボロでのギャラリーウォークの日＆私たちの展示オープニングでした。当日の夜は、地元のミュージシャンKurt & Chris Weismanと、Ruth Garbusのライブも開催されてたのでストリートの外れにも関わらずたくさんの人が訪れて大盛況でした。
実はBB&Cにも出演した私たちの友人、Ryanもドラムで演奏しているパートがあったそうなんですが、私たち二人はその間飲みにいってて見れませんでした！残念！
13歳の男の子、Nickの作るイヤリング展示即売も大人気でした。
下にある写真は、木曜日の搬入時にとったものです。（いつもの事で当日の写真はナシです…なんのために毎回カメラを持って行ってるのか…）
ここに、皆さんの想像力でライブ演奏するミュージシャンと、手作りピザを頬張りながらライブを聞いたり絵を見てる人々とイヤリングとカモミールティー、そして作品「TWO」(すぐ下の写真中央の作品)が売れてハイタッチするOvertureの二人を足せば、それが当日の状態になります。

The work this time is a small selection from the past two years with some pieces (the coffee stained zodiac watercolors) from previous shows and others old to us but new to the local public.
今回は、ここ２年で制作した作品の中から、オリジナルとコミッションワーク（依頼制作による作品）、そして過去違う町で展示したものを組み合わせています。
私たちにとってはけっこう前に制作したものですが、公に出るのはこれが初めてという作品がほとんどでした。

Elliot St. Cafe!
The new year is already building up steam! On the 8th of January a two month Overture exhibition will start at the wonderful Elliot St. Cafe in Brattleboro, Vermont! The exhibition will run for two months and open with the town's first gallery walk of the year.
The second gallery walk (February) we are planning on screening a selection of our animations including the upcoming KiraKira video.

期間は2010年の1月8日から二ヶ月間。場所は、今年の秋にオープンしたばかりのカフェ、Elliot St. Cafe。ここは大きな卓球台があって、二人の友達も多く働いてるところなのでとても楽しみです。

2009 playlist on flau
For the past few years the record label flau has asked friends of the label to come up with playlists for the year, to see what folks have been interested in and maybe gain some small collective perspective on the time that has passed.
This year Overture was kindly asked to come up with a playlist, so we tried to look back and see what really stuck with us through 2009. Flau's playlists aren't limited to just music though. Films, books, shows, almost anything can be thrown in. Appropriately then, ours is a jumble of different media and recurring events that were important to us throughout these twelve months. But pared down. We tried to keep the list short.

Our connection to flau isn't great, but seems to slowly becoming stronger over time. In 2008 a song of KiraKira's appeared in the flau compilation, Little Things, and this past year aus, the music creation end of flau founder Yasuhiko Fukuzono, played a show with Hauschka during his Japan tour. Hopefully more connections with flau develop in the future!
Also, we were asked to include a photo with our playlist, and we've added it at the top of this entry. It is a photo of Deerfield, MA, looking out from Sachem Head where we spent most of our outdoor time this year and took anyone who came to visit.
AND, Buttobi Bear & Caesar are taking a break this week but will be back soon for some holiday and new year cheer!

年末年始を日本で過ごすための用意と「Bless」に追われて、瞬きをしてる間に2010年になっていそうな気がします。
flauでリリースされたコンピレーションアルバム「little things」にKiraKiraが参加していたり、聞いた所によると先日Hauschkaとも日本の上野公演で一緒になったりと、まだお会いした事はないですが、何かと縁の近い方です。
上の写真はプレイリストでも紹介しているもので、リストの”Outdoors” にもある、Sachem Headという小さな山の頂上から眺めたDeerfieldという所の眺めです。
このSachem Headという場所は、私たちの家に遊びにきた人全てが一度登る事になるという山で（と言ってもハイキング気分で登れます）今年一年の私たちのアウトドア活動を象徴する場所です。
※今週のぶっとびベアー＆シーザーは冬休みをもらってバケーション中です。また旅から帰ってきたらお土産話を聞かせてくれる事でしょう。良い旅を！
Bless is Coming
With every cd copy of the album came a large, foldout map for the Monster Olympics. The map was broken into sections and each section corresponded to a song on the album.
The section for Bless is there on the left. Aside from some loose and independent interpretations of the lyrics for the song, the image was created through improvisation, letting our collective imagination describe the scene.
The animation will touch on a number of themes that have occupied our live these past few months and years, while bringing to visual life the flavor of Kira Kira's sweet and haunting music.

現在製作中で2010年にリリースされる予定の、新作アニメーションのお知らせです。
今回のビデオはKiraKiraのコラボ！彼女が2008年にリリースしたアルバム「Our Map to the Monster Olympics」（アートワーク：Overture）の収録曲「Bless」を使用しています。
このアルバム、「Our Map to the Monster Olympics」のパッケージの中には、タイトルの”モンスターオリンピック”会場で配布されるマップが入っていました。
マップはいくつかのパーツに分かれて、そのひとつひとつがアルバムの収録曲を表し即興で描かれています。
この制作はとても楽しかったです。楽曲の世界についたり離れたりダンスしながら、描いてた時の個人的な事、KiraKiraとのやり取りで浮かんできたものなどいろんな要素が絡み合って時間がかかりましたが、またいつか掘り進めてみたい所です。
「Bless」のアートワークは上の画像の白い部分です。この世界が動きます〜！
また完成が近づいたらお知らせしますので、それまでは上の絵で（マップを持ってる人は眺めながら／曲を聴きながら）想像してください。

Saturday Meetings
Every Saturday we get together and drink something hot and have a meeting. Sometimes there isn't much to organize or plan and we end up daydreaming or brainstorming, but usually there is something we need to figure out and it is always good to take a look and consider the past week.
Either way there is a lot of doodling.
毎週土曜日に行っているOVTRミーティングの模様です。
一緒に暮らしている家ではなく、他の居心地よい場所で話し合いの場を持つ事は、新しい視点のアイデア出しや、今取りかかっている物事を客観的に見つめる事にとても効果があります。夫婦で同じ場所に暮らして、生活も制作も一緒だと、気分転換ってとても大事。
今回も、これからの二人の制作ペースをアップさせるために役立つかもしれないひとつのアイデアがまとまって、良かった良かったと雪のちらつく中、カフェを後にしました。
今日ジェイソンが頼んだのはBreakfastブレンドのブラックコーヒー、私綾はチェスナッツ（こっちで言う栗）のカフェオレ。そしてクランベリーとブルーベリーのカップケーキでした。
Also, below is some ceramics we tried out. Our sister Sara is a ceramics teacher, among many other things, and over the summer we were her guinea pigs for class projects. It was only recently, however, that we got around to laying on some glaze.
初めて作った陶器が、先日焼き上がってきました。
ジェイソンのお姉さん（私の義姉である）Saraは、アートとセラミック（陶芸）、そして機織りを学校で教えている先生です。今回は夏の間に私たちが生徒として実験台になり、クラスの予行練習をしたときのもの。
なかなか時間がなくて夏に制作したものに色付けしたのが 秋も終わろうかという頃。そして釜から出てきたものたちがこれです！
まずは壊れる事もなく良いスタート。また時間のある時に作っていきたいです。
Holiday Cooking Season
We have passed through the holiday cooking season gateway:
Kabocha, carrot and lima bean nimono for Thanksgiving!
Hijiki and carrot takikomi gohan inarizushi with sides of fried pollack and atsuage nimono and a balsamic vinegar marinated persimmon, turnip and pear salad for my (Jason's) birthday celebration on Saturday!
These are all the handiwork of Aya of course, although I did prepare the soy sauce-wasabi-marinated tofu-lin, cucumber and cracker hors d'oeuvre and open-face apple pie with a kind of peanut butter topping for dessert.
もう12月！最後の〆の一ヶ月ですね。
この秋の終わり／冬の始まりの切り替えの時期をはっきり感じるイベントがふたつあります。
ひとつは、サンクスギビングデイ。そしてジェイソンの誕生日です。この二つが終わると、本当に冬がきたなあと感じます。雪はまだ10月に一日降ったきりですが…。
今年のサンクスギビングデイは、なにかホコホコしたものをと思って、カボチャとニンジンとライマビーンズ（平べったい豆）の煮物を作り、こちらでの親戚の集まりに持って行きました。
上の写真は、ジェイソンの誕生日会でのものです。
毎年、ジェイソンのリクエストで和風の食べ物になるんですが、今年のメニューは…飾りいなり寿司と、鱈の唐揚げと厚揚げの盛り合わせみぞれあんかけ、そして柿と蕪と梨のサラダでした。
ジェイソンも、TofuLin(固めのお豆腐みたいなもの)をわさび醤油に漬け込んでキュウリと一緒にクラッカーに乗せたものと、ピーナツバターソーストッピングのオープンアップルパイを作ってくれました。（写真下）
割烹着を着ているのは、このメニューがなんだか小料理屋さんみたいという理由で、おかみさん風（おっかさん風？）になろうとしているからです。
このところ、BB&Cとイベントの更新ばかりで、私たちの日常の事について書かれてなかったので、少し書いてみました。こういうの、また増やしていきたいですね。
