Holy moly! Weird Healing, our most recent short short short animation, is premiering at Cinefamily as part of Animation Breakdown Roundup on March 8th! And it really is a great roundup up animators: Allison Schulnik, Takeshi Murata, Emily Hubley, Kirsten Lepore, to name a few...

Oh, and we will be physically present!

新作の超短短編アニメーション「Weird Healing」のプレミア上映が決まりました！3/8にロスの映画館Cinefamilyで開催される映像イベントAnimation Breakdown Roundupです！他の参加作家も、Allison Schulnik、Takeshi Murata、Emily Hubley、Kirsten Leporeなどなど、大好きな作家さんばかりでとても嬉しいです。

そして私達も今回は会場へ向かいますー！Weird Healingのプレミアはもちろんですが、他の作家さんの作品を見る事もとても楽しみにしています。

The short that is premiering, Weird Healing, is a very brief taste of a greater story, Weird Healing, chronicling the various healing-related adventures of Pim the doctor with an indomitable spirit and his friend and guide, Jiji, a knowledgeable old bull. Short comics concerning these stories are currently published every other week in our local newspaper, The Montague Reporter.

A compilation of these comics and other Weird Healing artwork, with a link to download the animation and music created for the project by Halcyon Tone, is in the works and hopefully will be released some time in the late spring/ early summer! Stay tuned!

Weird Healingを最初に思いついた時はとても長い物語でした。まずは第一歩ということで、一部をこうやって短い映像にすることができてうれしいです。ここから少しずつこの世界を放流していく事ができたらと思います。

出てくるのは、好奇心が強く、全てに対してオープンなドクターのピムと、薬草や森の知識を持つ小さな牡牛のジジ。この２人がメインキャラクターとなり”奇妙な癒し”をキーワードに変わった形でいろんな物や人を治したり（治さなかったり？）しながら冒険をする物語です。実はこの短短編とは別のお話を、The Montague Reporterという地元紙で漫画としても連載しています。この新聞連載のコミックやアニメーション、そしてこの映像の音楽＆音効を制作してくれたHalcyon Toneの音楽をまとめたものをいつか出せたらいいなと思っています。その時はまたここでお知らせします。

BYOB -Bring Your Own Beamer @AIT

We’re screening some animations at an event in Tokyo this weekend! Hosted by Arts Initiative Tokyo [AIT] (the group that facilitated our Wayfinding workshop in 2012), this is a BYOB (Bring Your Own Beamer) event. First started by Rafaël Rozendaal, BYOB is a event where artists gather with their own projectors and share each other’s work. We won’t be physically present (although we might Skype in) but it sounds like a really great happening with some great folks - Onnacodomo (Video artist team we had the honor to work with at the first FOUNDLAND in 2010) and Hirano Ryo (an animator we greatly admire) among many many others! 2/22土曜日に、恵比寿映像祭の地域連携プログラム『BYOB -Bring Your Own Beamer@AIT』に参加して映像を上映させてもらう事になりました。2012年のWayfindingワークショップの時にお世話になったArts Initiative Tokyo [AIT]が主宰で、代官山のAITルームで開催されます。オランダのアーティスト、Rafaël Rozendaalさんが始めた持ち寄り型映像イベントという事で、私達は会場には迎えませんが映像のみで参加します:)　2010年にイベント’FOUNDLAND’でご一緒したOnnacodomoさん達や、ひらのりょうさんなども参加されるそうです。無料＆予約なしだそうなのでぜひ立ち寄ってみてくださいね。

Noisecapades 2014

The 4th annual Peskeomskut Noisecapades was this past Sunday (2/2) and it finally feels like the year has properly begun. A selection of performances from this and past years, can be found here. As in previous years, each performance is limited in time and electrical power is confined to battery powered devices. Our contribution this year - though not a time-limited performance - seems to have been well documented. Thanks as always Neil!


友人のニールがオーガナイズしている凍った川の上のノイズ/パフォーマンスイベント Peskeomskut Noisecapades（http://phantombrainexchange.suchfun.net/pnc_about.html）。川が凍ったため今年も2/2に無事開催！今年で４回目になります。通常はひとり５分以内というルールがあるんですが、今回はヒエロニムス・ボスの絵に出てくるイメージのバスケットピープルという顔がかご／バスケットの人達として佇みパフォーマンスを見守るという形で参加してきました。

The Hole

Further progress on, 'The Hole', a pop-up book & music project by Hideaki Takahashi ( aiding) that we did the artwork for! Things are coming together, the logistics of the pop-up parts have been worked out, the music is ready and there will even be sensors in the book that will activate different things in addition to the physical paper movements. It is all quite exciting and we look forward to the finished piece - coming in the not-too-distant future…

以前ここでも写真をシェアした、音楽家・高橋英明（aiding）さんの新しいCD＋飛び出す絵本のプロジェクト「The Hole」。
音楽、ポップアップ、そして仕掛け部分にセンサーも組み込んだちょっと見た事ないものになりそうです。Overtureは絵を描かせてもらっています。
リリースは今年の3月11日予定です。さらなる詳細をまたアップしていきますね。どうぞお楽しみに！

First Taste

We recently completed a short short animation project, based on the general premise of a rejected series pitch. The name and concept: Weird Healing. Pim is an ever positive doctor, embracing life and all situations fully and seeing the benefit in everything. This usually leads to trouble but he always works things out with his indomitable spirit and help from his friend and guide, Jiji. Jiji is a knowledgeable and wise old bull with extensive understanding of plant life and the natural world. He worries easily but does not shrink from danger.

Together Pim and Jiji make house calls to distant planets, alternate dimensions and the like.

Our short short is one such abbreviated story.

It won't be properly screened until March, but we held a private screening recently in our home. The reaction was extremely positive (from friends, anyway!). The favorable reactions were in no small part due to the excellent sound design and music created for Weird Healing by Josh Lundquist and Christopher Nelson at Halcyon Tone. Their other projects are superb and super interesting and very much worth your time investigating.

Halcyon Tone put together so much - unused - music for the short that there are talks of releasing an EP of the material with additional Weird Healing artwork!

最近まで制作していた短々編、"Weird Healing（ウィアードヒーリング）"が完成したので友人を呼んでお好み焼きとともに見てもらう内覧上映会＆忘年会を開催しました。

何事にもオープン＆前向きなドクターのPim(ピム)と、植物の知識旺盛な心配性の牡牛JiJi(ジジ)が、いろんなものに出会い、冒険や思索を交えて問題解決していきます。

友人達が拍手喝采だったのが、東京で暮らす友人Josh Lundquist（ジョッシュ・ランドクエスト）とChristopher Nelson（クリスとファー・ネルソン）の音楽ユニットHalcyon Tone（ハルシオントーン）の作ってくれた音です！彼らは音楽とともに音響効果も担当してくれました。こちらも最高です！この音があるとないとではアニメーションが全然違うものに見えますね…すごい！彼らの音楽、すばらしいのでぜひリンクからサイトを訪ねて聴いてみてくださいね。

ハルシオントーンの２人はこのとても短い映像のために沢山の音楽／音を作ってくれました。この映像に入りきれなかった音楽をEPでリリースするかも…！その時はもちろんアートワークで参加させてもらいたいと思います。

近いうちにもっと沢山の人に見てもらえる機会がありますように。その時はお知らせしますね。

Live Art Magazine

Ludic Chase is getting the live-score treatment again!

With Josef Lincoln again!

November 1st, 7:30 PM at The Academy of Music, Northampton, MA

This time it will be part of Live Art Magazine, the first issue of a local art and music 'magazine' event. The idea is that works performed, screened, read, etc. are one-time, with no recording devices permitted. Ludic Chase is available online for viewing (two versions even!), but the experience of it with Josef's live music is unique to the evening. There are many other amazing participants, including Pulitzer prize winner, James Tate and Double Edge Theater's Matthew Glassman.

It should be a very interesting and vari　ed event! Tickets are $10 and can be purchased through the theater's site.

Ludic Chaseがこの秋にもう一度ライブスコアリングしてもらえることになりました。とっても素敵＆大きな会場で、そして相手はJosef Lincolnアゲイン！ ノースハンプトンの中心部にある歴史ある劇場 The Academy of Musicにて、１１月１日の夜７時半から開演のイベントLive Art Magazineにて再コラボさせてもらいます。

このイベント、ライブや上映やパフォーマンスをまるで月購読のマガジンのように毎月見せていくという趣旨で、今回はその記念すべき第一回目です。（わたしたち、何かの”第一回”に参加する経験がほんとに多いです）録音／撮影一切禁止で、ここでしか見れないものを見せるという事で、Ludic Chase自体はオンラインで見る事ができる (しかも２パターンも!)のですが、ジョセフのその場での演奏で、一度きりのパフォーマンスとして前回見た方にも楽しんでもらえるものになると思います。

他の出演の方も、ピューリッツァー賞受賞のJames Tateさん、劇団Double Edge Theater主宰のMatthew Glassmanさんなど、興味深いです。お客さんとして見に行くの自体が楽しみ！　チケットは$10で劇場サイトで購入できます。

In 2012 we were in Japan for a series of events with the overarching title, MAGI NIGH. One of the events was called Ritual Exchange, an ambitious endeavor with live music, live scoring, live drawing and even some crude puppetry (made beautiful with deft VJ hands) at Super Deluxe in Tokyo. 

At Ritual Exchange Daisuke Tanabe live-scored our animation, Ludic Chase (original music by rec.tangle!) and we really loved his performance. He was kind enough to give us a recording of the piece he had prepared - and we decided to match it to the animation and share it with the world! Take a look!

今回は、ぜひみなさんに見てもらいたいと思っていた、もうひとつのLudic Chaseを公開しようと思います！

話は2012年の春まで遡ります…Magi Union企画で日本のいくつかの場所で開催したイベント＆展示のシリーズ MAGI NIGH（マジナイ）。その中のひとつ、六本木Super Deluxeで開催された音楽×ライブスコアリング×ライブドローイング、そして謎のパペットショウなどの集合体イベント、Ritual Exchange！たくさんの方に来てもらったこのイベントにて音楽家Daisuke Tanabeさんが私たちのアニメーションLudic Chase（これは音楽：rec.tangleのオリジナルバージョンです）にその場で音をつけてくれて、それはそれは素晴らしかったのです。後日、イベントで演奏したものを再現した音源をDaisukeさんから頂いて、これはいつか必ずアニメーションと合わせて公開したいと思っていたのでした。。そしてできたのがこれです！

Daisukeさん、こういうことをやるのは全くの初めてで…と開演前少しお話した時に言ってました。音と映像が始まり、私自身次の事を考えないといけなかったり、暑くてフラフラしてたりしたんですが、 目が離せなくなり、ライブドローイングの蚊帳の中でニヤニヤが止まりませんでした！ほんとうによかった。

あの日　イベントに来てくださったみなさん、これを見てあの夜を一緒に思い出しましょう。そして来れなかった方も、こんな事が起こっていたんですよー！ぜひ見てみてくださいね。

Toki's Monstas

A musical interactive sticker book!  

TOKiMONSTA is out with a new video for her song, 'Clean Slate', with Gavin Turek. The video was directed (and programmed!) by fourclops, with artwork by us! 

The video is a pretty ambitious project: a spaceship swings by a lovely planet (our Earth?) and drops off TOKiMONSTA and Gavin. They start making music, calling an array of little monstas aboard the spaceship to populate the world. It is up to the viewer to decide which monstas come down, dragging them with a beam onto the video while it is playing - and the monstas move to the music!

After playing with the sticker book you can download or share still versions of your decorated scenes. We've included two of ours below. 

(We've found the video plays best for us on Chrome with a decent internet connection) 

The video premiered on Vice's Noisey site and has received very nice write-ups on dublab and 2Pause. 

It was a great pleasure working with all these amazing and super talented folks and we would love to do more with them in the future! 

TOKIMONSTAの新曲”Clean Slate”(歌/ Gavin Turek)のインタラクティブビデオ「Toki's Monstas」がリリースされました！監督＆プログラムはLAベースの2人組fourclops、そしてアートワークは私達Overtureです。

7/8新月の日にViceのサイトNoiseyでプレミア後、いつもお世話になっているdublabや、何度もビデオを取り上げてもらった2Pauseにて（今回はインタラクティブビデオ部門で！）とても素敵な紹介をしてもらっています。

このビデオ、動くステッカーブックというテーマで、オンラインでビデオを見ながら同時にドラッグして画面上に降ろすと動き出すモンスタたちで遊んで、そして遊んだ後にはスクリーンショットで自分のステッカーページをシェアできるというすごい仕組みです。（プログラマーの技！）

こういう新しい試みのプロジェクトに私達の手描きのアニメーションが参加できたことは本当に嬉しい事です。このチャンスをくれた方々に感謝を！そしてまた未来にまだ誰もやった事がないようなプロジェクトに参加できる事を楽しみにしています。

Animation Block Party 2013

Ludic Chase will be in this year's Animation Block Party, held at three venues in Brooklyn, NY 7/25 - 7/28!  

Animation Block Party has been going since 2004 and is a wonderful outdoor summer festival of animation! This will be our first time attending and it is a great honor to be selected to screen.  

Ludic Chase screens at 2:00 PM Saturday, 7/25 at BAMcinématek as part of the Experimental, Graphic Design/ Music Video section. 

There are many amazing animations screening all weekend, so we definitely recommend checking it out. We will certainly be there!

7/25 - 7/28の間、ニューヨーク・ブルックリンで今夏開催されるアニメーションフェスティバル、第10回アニメーションブロックパーティ2013にてLudic Chaseが上映されることが決まりました！　

アニメーションブロックパーティは２００４年にスタートして今年で１０年目のフェスティバル。今年は１０年記念ということで、今まで以上に大きな規模で開催されるようです。私達の作品が選ばれるのは初めてのことです。

Ludic Chaseが上映されるのは、7/27（土）昼の２時にスタートするエクスペリメント／グラフィック／ミュージックビデオ部門です。会場はブルックリンのアーツセンター、ブルックリン・アカデミー・オブ・ミュージック（通称BAM／バム）内の劇場BAMcinématek。

今年は合計１００本以上のアニメーションが上映されるそうでラインナップもとても面白そう！ 今回は…東海岸だし、比較的近いし、会場に行きたいと思います〜。わーい！
